Hubert Kostka (2011)

Hubert Kostka ( born May 27, 1940 in the village of Mark ( Markowitz ), Circle Ratibor ) is a former Polish footballer and football coach.

Club career

The only 1,79 m tall goalkeeper Hubert Kostka spent his entire professional career with the Polish Gornik Zabrze record champions. With the club he won several Polish league and cup victories. In 1970, he was with Gornik Zabrze in the Cup Winners' Cup Final, but lost Manchester City 1:2.

National

Kostka played from 1962 to 1972 a total of 32 times for Poland. His greatest achievement was the gold medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. Shortly after the Olympics, he finished his international career.

Coaching career

After ending his playing career Kostka was youth coach at Gornik Zabrze. From 1976 to mid 1977 he was for the first time first-team coach of Gornik Zabrze. Subsequently, he was coach of Szombierki Bytom, with whom he was Polish champion in 1980. From 1983 to 1986, he re-trained Gornik Zabrze, this time much more successful than the first attempt. With Gornik he won the Polish Championship titles in 1985 and 1986. Moreover, was also briefly manager of Walka Makoszowa, Zagłębie Sosnowiec, Olimpia Poznań, Petrochemia Płock, Olimpia - Lechia Gdańsk, Raków Częstochowa, FC Grenchen and FC Aarau. He was also on the coaching staff of the Polish national team coaches Kazimierz Górski, Jacek Gmoch and Antoni Piechniczek.
