Hubert Lamb

Hubert Horace Lamb ( born September 22, 1913 in Bedford, † June 28, 1997 in Holt, Norfolk ) was an English climatologist. He founded the Climatic Research Unit, University of East Anglia.

Work

Lamb applicable in the Historical Climatology as one of the pioneers in working with historical time certificates to reconstruct the climate history of the last centuries and to explore the influences of past climate changes on society. Lamb coined the term the Medieval Warm Period. Particular emphasis will be use of air indexes and his work on the relationship between volcanic eruptions and thus triggered short-term climate fluctuations, he led in 1972 to the characterization of the Dust Veil Index still in use today.

Lamb was the grandson of the mathematician Horace Lamb. His son Norman Lamb is a Member of the British Parliament for North Norfolk.

With Lewis Fry Richardson joined him early on a friendship. Meanwhile Quäkerphilosophie influenced Lamb sustainable.
