Hubert Marischka

Hubert Marischka ( born August 27, 1882 in Brunn am Gebirge, † December 4, 1959 in Vienna), brother of Ernst Marischka, was an Austrian actor, singer, director and screenwriter.

Life

The son of k.u.k. Hoflieferanten ( profession: gilder ) Jiří (Johann) Marischka and his wife Berta was first carpenter. He was trained as a singer and started his career in 1904 as an operetta singer at the Municipal Theatre of St. Pölten in Poor Jonathan Karl Millöcker. As an actor, he was initially successful in Brno, as Danilo in The Merry Widow in 1906. On July 27, 1907, he sang in the premiere of The jolly farmer Leo Fall in Mannheim. On December 23, 1908, he joined the Carl Theatre in Falls The divorced woman the first time in Vienna. After that, he was particularly at the Theater an der Wien very successful. Later he worked there as a director, mainly for operetta performances. In 1923 he was made director of the Theater an der Wien. On February 28, 1924, he brought here the operetta Countess Maritza premiered. Late twenties, he sang at the Vienna State Opera in A Night in Venice.

Early on, he established contacts with the new medium of film. Here he worked as an actor, director and screenwriter. His film works can often be attributed to the genre of the Viennese film. With Hans Moser he turned well-known films like We ask to the dance (1941 ) or The Lord Councilor (1948 ). Marishka was also Director of the Municipal Theatre of Vienna and the Raimund Theatre, Head of Papageno music publishing and specialist operetta professor at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

In 1907 he married Anna Felicitas " Lizzy " Léon († 1918), daughter of Victor Léon. With her he had three children, which later became actress Lisl (1908-1945), Viktor ( born 1915 ) and later director Franz ( 1918-2009 ). After Lizzi's death Marischka married the daughter of theater director William Karczag, Lilian " Lilly" Karczag (children George Marishka and Tassilo, * 1928). During the war he was briefly married after the divorce with his third wife Juliane. In 1946 he graduated with the actress Trude Basch -Havel his fourth marriage.

Hubert Marischka honorary devoted grave is located at the Hietzing Cemetery (Group 66, Series 10, Number 1 A) in Vienna.

In 2009 in Vienna Floridsdorf ( 21st district ), the Marischkapromenade after him and two of his brothers, Carl and Ernst, named. [Note 1]
