Hubert Petschnigg

Hubert Petschnigg ( born October 31, 1913 in Klagenfurt, † September 15, 1997 at Burg Pyrmont ) was an Austrian architect, who lived and worked since 1948 in Dusseldorf.

Life

After graduating from the High School in Villach Petschnigg started in 1934 to study architecture at the Technical University of Vienna, where he joined the Corps Hansea Vienna 1935. However, he was taken before his graduation for military service. After the end of the Second World War, he continued his studies in 1946 at the Technical University Graz Karl Raimund Lorenz and Friedrich Zotter continued, from which he graduated in 1947 as a graduate engineer.

In 1948 he was active in Düsseldorf architectural office of Helmut Hentrich and Hans Heuser. After the death of Hans Heuser 1953 Petschnigg took his place and made with the architects Hentrich Hentrich- Petschnigg (HP). In 1959, the office was extended by six partners and called it HPP Hentrich -Petschnigg & Partner. 1962 Petschnigg was awarded the band of the Corps Marchia Brno. In 1977 he was appointed by the Technical University of Graz Honorary Senator. In 1982 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, making him particularly honored as Austrians. In 1988 he became an honorary member of the Engineers and Architects Association of North Rhine -Westphalia.

Petschniggs was especially interested in historic preservation. He restored old buildings, including his own castle Pyrmont in the Eifel, on which he spent as lord of the castle with his wife of his life.
