Hubert Skrzypczak

Hubert Skrzypczak ( born September 29, 1943 in Neustadt, West Prussia ) is a former Polish boxer. He was European champion in 1967 at flyweight and winner of a bronze medal at the 1968 Olympics in light flyweight.

Career

Hubert Zenon Skrzypczak grew up in Wejherowo (New Town) and learned at the boxing club WKS Gryf Wejherowo boxing. Later he started yet for Zawisy Bydgoszcz and GKS Wybrzeze Gdańsk. As a youth he learned the trade of a car mechanic. He also trained in physical education teacher and later police officer.

On a sporting sector, he joined at the age of 22 years in appearance, when he reached the final at the Polish Championship in 1965 at flyweight, but lost in this against Artur Olech on points. In the same year he was then already at the European Championships in Berlin (East) used. In the flyweight, he won there Miroslav Moravec from Czechoslovakia, Vladimir Mironov from the Soviet Union and Constantin Ciuca from Romania. In the final battle he faced the German Hans Freistadt, where he delivered a balanced fight and only narrowly lost with 2:3 judges' votes. He thus became European vice-champion.

1966 Hubert Skrzypczak again Polish vice-champion. In the final battle of the Polish championship, he had to be done with reference to Artur Olech because of an injury out of the ring. In 1967 he took in Rome for the second time in Europe championships. He was there in excellent form and won with four wins the European title. He hit it in the semifinals of the Soviet champion Petr Gorbatov and in the final Constantin Ciuca on points.

Also in 1968 succeeded Hubert Skrzypczak not to win the Polish Cup, because this year he lost in the final battle Jerzy Wichman on points. The Polish head coach Feliks tribe then decided that he had to start in the light flyweight at the Olympic Games in Mexico. This meant for him, who has had to work off a few pounds for the limit of the flyweight always that he had to work off a further 3 kg for the light flyweight. He managed this ordeal and reached in the difficult climatic conditions in Mexico to win a medal. After three victories, he was defeated there in the semi-final against Lee Yong -Su from South Korea to points, won the bronze medal.

After another Polish vice-champion title in 1969 Hubert Skrzypczak was then in 1970 with a points victory in the final over Jozef Witek finally Polish champion at flyweight. This remained his only title win, because in the final of the Polish Championship in 1971, he was defeated by Leszek Błażyński and 1973, the last Polish championship in which he took part, he was defeated in the quarter- final against Leszek Borkowski.

At other international championships Hubert Skrzypczak took no further part after the Olympic Games in 1968. He represented Poland in several countries still fighting, beating 1970 in Cologne, Hans Freistadt on points and retaliated so for the defeat at the European Championships in 1965.

In 1974 he finished his boxer 's career. He played a total of 243 fights, of which he won 208. Three times he was fighting a draw and 32 fights he lost.

During his active time awarded the title Honored Master of Sports was awarded.
