Hubert Stevens

John Hubert Stevens ( born March 7, 1890 in Lake Placid, New York, † November 26, 1950 ibid; named Hubert Stevens) was an American bobsledder.

After completing his studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy Stevens worked as an engineer. During World War II, he was a machinist and a pilot in the Aviation Section of the U.S. Army Signal Corps, from which the present-day United States Air Force emerged. After the war, he led the family own hotel in Lake Placid and was responsible for the security in the ski Whiteface Mountain.

Stevens was a versatile athlete. He played golf and hockey. However, the most successful he was as a bobsledder and won three North American and U.S. champion. He participated in the 1932 Olympics part in his hometown and won with his brother Curtis Stevens gold medal in the two-man bob. Another brother, Paul Stevens, was second in the four-man event. Four years later he finished fourth in the four-man event in Garmisch -Partenkirchen.
