Hudiksvall Municipality

Hudiksvall is a municipality (Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Gävleborg and the historical province of Hälsingland. The main town of the municipality is Hudiksvall.

Passing through the municipality, the European Route 4 and the railway line Gävle - Sundsvall.

Geography

The municipality extends about 50 kilometers along the Baltic coast and follows the course of the river Svågan about 90 km to the northwest in the interior.

In the center of the community lakes Norra dings and dents Södra lie, lying in a pool of about 22 km in diameter, which was created by a meteorite impact about 250 million years. There is also the place Delsbo, the center of an intensively farmed area of more than 20 villages.

The coast is highly structured and you are in front of numerous islands. On bay Hudiksvallsfjärden is the town of Hudiksvall, while about ten kilometers to the south is at the mouth of Delångersån in the Gulf of Bothnia to the important industrial town Iggesund.

History

The city in 1582 by King John III. founded by Sweden, who relocated the residents of Hudik to the coast.

The city was burning in their history about a dozen times down. The most significant damage was caused by the Russians in 1721. In this fire only the church remained. Today's street layout was Hudiksval 1792 after another fire.

Economy

The main town is an important service center. After the municipal administration of the County Council of Gävleborg County is the second largest employer. Industry also plays an important role. In addition to operations in Hudiksvall Iggesund is an important industrial center ( Iggesund Paperboard AB and Iggesund Timber AB ).
