Huerfano County, Colorado

The Huerfano County (of Spanish Huérfano, Orphan ') is a county in the southern portion of the U.S. state of Colorado. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Walsenburg.

History

Huerfano County is one of the 17 original administrative units that originated in 1861 on the new Territory of Colorado. 1866 a large part of the county to the Las Animas County was spun. Temporary (1870 ) was spun off another part and with the reserves of the Cheyenne and Arapaho for Greenwood County. Geography
