Hugbert of Bavaria

Hugbert (also Hucbert, Hucperth; † 736 ) from the family of Agilolfinger was in the years 724-736 Duke of the Bavarians in Bavaria.

Life

Hugbert was the son of Bavarian Duke Theudebert and Regintrud, descended again as a daughter of the Seneschal and Count Palatine Hugo Bert from the family of Hugobertiner and Irmina of Oeren.

After the death of father Hugberts disagreement about the succession arose. Charles Martel tried to take advantage and get the insubordinate Duchy stronger grip. Hugbert was forced to reveal parts of his duchy, and for a while Bavarian laws in the name of the Merovingian king Theodoric adopted IV ( King 721-737 ).

Hugbert put the plan of his predecessor into action, to create an independent Bavarian church by Boniface began to Christianize the country and the Bishop of Korbinian Freising brought back into Bavaria.
