Hugh A. Robertson

Hugh A. Robertson ( born May 28, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York City; † January 10, 1988 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American editor and director.

Life

Robertson worked at the beginning of the 1960s as " sound editor " and assistant editor. With Harvey Middleman, Fireman from 1965 he was first employed as an independent cutter. In 1969 Midnight Cowboy, for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Editing was the first african american cutter. In addition, he was awarded a BAFTA Film Award. Also in 1969 he made his debut as a director and screenwriter with the television production ... And Beautiful. Shaft of 1971 was the last production in which he was involved as an editor.

After his directorial work on Melinda in 1972 he left the United States and settled in Trinidad and Tobago. Until 1987 he worked as a director, including for some documentation, a year later he died from the effects of cancer.

In 1982, he was inducted into the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame.

Robertson was married and the father of two children.
