Hugh Griffith

Hugh Emrys Griffith ( * May 30, 1912 in Anglesey, Wales; † 14 May 1980, London) was a Welsh film and stage actor.

Beginning of the 1940s, Griffith became known as the London theater actors a name. Later he also became known internationally through various roles in British and American film productions in the 1950s and 1960s. It joined the Welsh, who had a very distinctive facial features, in a wide variety of genres. In 1959 he played the role of Sheik Ilderim in the epic film classic Ben Hur, for which he received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. In 1964 he was honored for his role in Tom Jones - again nominated Bed to the gallows for an Oscar.
