Hugh of Lincoln

Hugh of Lincoln ( Avalon ) (* 1140 Castle Avallon, Burgundy, † November 16, 1200 in London) is a holy bishop.

Hugo, the youngest son of the Lord of Avallon in Burgundy was educated by Augustinian canons in Villard -Benoit Abbey. In 1160 he entered the Great Chartreuse in Grenoble and was ordained in 1165 for religious priests. At the request of King Henry II, he went to England in 1175, the first English Carthusian monastery to reform and to lead. In 1186 he became Bishop of Lincoln.

He is depicted with a swan as an attribute that you want visitors to keep him by flapping wings and beaks.

Early as 1220, Hugo was instituted by Pope Honorius III. canonized, he was the first canonized Carthusians. His feast day is November 17.
