Hugh VI of Lusignan

Hugo VI. of Lusignan (c. 1039, † May 18 1102 in Ramla ), called " le diable " (the Devil ), Mr. de Lusignan, Crusader and son of Hugo V. de Lusignan and his wife Almodis de la Marche was.

Despite his piety, he often clashed with the exemten Abbey of Saint- Maixent in conflict. His numerous disputes with the monks were eventually so violent, that the Duke of Aquitaine, the bishops of Poitiers and Saintes and Pope Paschal II had to intervene. From the monks of the Abbey of Saint -Maixent he was nicknamed "the devil ".

His marriage to Hildegard of Thouars Thouars out of the house, his son and successor Hugo VII came out of Lusignan.

1087 undertook Hugo with his half- brother Raymond IV of Toulouse, an expedition against the Almoravids in Spain to support his other half-brother Ramon Berenguer II, Count of Barcelona.

1096 Hugo took the cross to the First Crusade at the side of his half-brothers Raymond and Berenguer. He accompanied Raimund also on the crusade of 1101. Having achieved with the latter Easter 1102 Jerusalem, he took the journey home to France. His ship, however, turned only briefly after the departure in a storm and had to turn back damaged. So he followed the call for help King Baldwin I of Jerusalem and his army joined to avert an Egyptian invasion. In the following second battle of Ramla Hugo fell on 18 May 1102.
