Hugo Knorr

Hugo Knorr ( born November 17 1834 in Königsberg, † September 29, 1904 in Karlsruhe ) was a German landscape and marine painter, graphic artist and art professor.

Life

With nearly 18 years Knorr came to the art academy of Königsberg in autumn 1852, and occupied himself there in the main with landscape painting. Among other things, there was Carl Scherres his fellow student. Later Knorr master class was the landscape painter August Behrendsen. One student who was Luise Neumann ( painter ).

1875 Knorr took up an appointment at the Technical University of Karlsruhe, where he worked as a professor.

Reception

Knorr's oil paintings depict mostly the coastal landscape of Norway, which is shown in all its grandeur and sublimity of the seasons. Another focus Knorr are his chalk or charcoal drawings with which he ingeniously illustrated numerous works of literature.
