Hugo Viana

Hugo Miguel Ferreira Gomes Viana [ uɣu viɐnɐ ] ( born January 15, 1983 in Barcelos ), called Hugo Viana, is a Portuguese footballer. He currently plays for Al -Ahli Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

Career

Hugo Viana started his footballing career at Sporting Lisbon and in 2002 for 12.5 million euros in the English Premier League Newcastle United. There he completed two seasons and took Newcastle to the Champions League in part in 2002/ 03. The team reached the second round, failed in Group A, however, the FC Barcelona and Inter Milan. After the second season in England, where it again failed him a regular place in Newcastle to fight, Viana was again awarded to Sporting Lisbon. At the beginning of the season 2005/2006 he moved to the Spanish La Liga for FC Valencia, also only on loan, as Sporting was not willing to pay the high transfer fee to Newcastle. In Valencia, he was used by coach Quique Flores usually only after the break or in the course of the second half. He played in the 2005/06 season in 19 games for FC Valencia and reached with his team to third place behind champions FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. In March 2006, Viana was then bought from Valencia for approximately 2.3 million euros. In July 2007 he was on loan from CA Osasuna, where he played no game over the full season and will therefore only came to nine part-time assignments, whatever it was that he possibly sustain a lengthy injury during the preseason. In the 2008 /09 season he was playing for Valencia, he came into the season just four competitive stakes for Valencia. In the 2009/10 season he was loaned out to Sporting Braga. Then, his contract was terminated by mutual consent at Valencia, so Hugo Viana was a free transfer to sports Inga Braga. Hugo Viana signed a three year contract with the Portuguese runners-up. In July 2013 Viana joined Al -Ahli Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

National

His first international match played Viana in a friendly match on 14 November 2001 against Angola, which ended with a 5-1 win in Portugal. Previously, he had established himself in the Portuguese Under-21 team, with whom he took part in the U21 European Championships in 2002 and 2004.

Hugo Viana was at the 2002 World Cup squad in the Portuguese national team, but was not used. He took with Portugal at the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 and played at the FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany.
