Hugo Weaving

Hugo Wallace Weaving ( born April 4, 1960 in Ibadan, Nigeria) is a British- Australian actor.

Life

The son of a British seismologists spent his childhood with his parents, his older brother Simon and his little sister Anna in South Africa and the United Kingdom. In 1976 he moved to Australia and began an acting career. After graduating from Knox Grammar School in Sydney and the National Institute of Dramatic Art, which has also produced spectacle the likes of Mel Gibson and Geoffrey Rush, he built a successful stage and film career.

His acting career began with several Australian television series and films. In 1989, he starred opposite Nicole Kidman in the miniseries Bangkok Hilton in one of the major roles. In 1991 he received an Australian Film Institute Award for Best Actor for his starring role in the low-budget film Proof.

First international attention received Weaving in 1994 to represent the main role in Priscilla - Queen of the Desert. He gained worldwide fame through the roles as Agent Smith in the Matrix trilogy (1999-2003) and Elrond in the film adaptations of The Lord of the Rings (2001-2003).

In 2005, he jumped at ongoing shooting consistently masked as lead actor in the movie V for Vendetta for his colleague James Purefoy one, who had dropped out due to artistic differences with the director from the project. Most of the scenes of the movie were filmed with Weaving, the recordings created with Purefoy were dubbed by Weaving. In the German version Weaving is synchronized by Oliver Stritzel.

In 2006, he stood in the Brooklyn Academy of Music opposite Cate Blanchett in the staging of Henrik Ibsen play Hedda Gabler the Sydney Theatre Company on stage. In Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Hobbit, he took over the role of Elrond again.

The suffering from epilepsy Weaving lives with his wife Katrina Greenwood and his two children in Sydney. He is also an active supporter and donor of the environmental organization Voiceless, which works for the Australian animal rights.
