The Hulftegg is a Swiss mountain pass in the Alps at 954 meters above sea level. Between M. MUHLRUTI (municipality Mosnang ) and bridge (municipality fish Thal ).

The pass road since 1867 links Toggenburg in the canton of St. Gallen with the Tösstal in the canton of Zurich and has a maximum slope of 10%. The pass forms the watershed between the river systems of the Töss and Thur. At its summit, which is located entirely in the canton of St. Gallen, is the bicycle and motorcycle riders popular, eponymous restaurant outing. Also, the Hulftegg starting point for the 20 -minute walking trail wit as well as for many beautiful walks on the hills of the Zurich Oberland, for example, up to the Hörnli or Schnebelhorn.

History

The first mention of Hulftegg dated from 1656 as Hulfteren. In the 18th and 19th century, the pass road had a certain importance for cattle trade and the cotton transport. The 7 km long and 5 meters wide pass road has been inaugurated in 1867, 37 years after their project after three years of construction.
