Human Betterment Foundation

The main station was built in 1928 by E.S. Gosney established. The company advocated the forced sterilization of below average intelligence people.

Originally, the Board of Trustees of Henry M. Robinson ( a banker from Los Angeles ), George Dock ( a doctor from Pasadena ), David Starr Jordan ( Rector of Stanford University), Charles Goethe ( philanthropist from Sacramento ), Justin Miller ( Dean of the College of law at the University of Southern California), Otis Castle ( lawyer from Los Angeles ), Joe G. Crick (vegetable gardener from Pasadena ), and biologist Paul Popenoe. Later members were of intelligence researcher Lewis Terman, William B. Munro ( Harvard Professor of Political Science ), Herbert M. Evans (Professor of Anatomy at Berkeley ) and Samuel J. Holmes ( zoologist ).

ES Gosney died 1942. Thereupon his daughter sparked the society and the money flowed into the Gosney research fund of the California Institute of Technology.
