Human Nature is a song by Michael Jackson from 1983, which was written by Steve Porcaro and John Bettis. The song appeared on the album Thriller and is 3:45 minutes long.

History

Human Nature was published on July 3, 1983. The song was written by Steve Porcaro, keyboardist for the rock band Toto, who had written the song for his daughter. Porcaro and his bandmate David Paich worked at the time just with producer Quincy Jones in the album Thriller. Quincy had asked Paich some song ideas, and Paich gave him a cassette with some demos, among whom is Human Nature was, that was not meant for Jones. Jones took over the song and John Bettis asked to write the text.

Reception

Despite the moderate success there were many positive reviews: In the New York Times, John Rockwell described the song as a " ghostly ... ballad with an irresistible chorus ." Rolling Stone wrote that the ballad was created along the lines of Michael Jackson 's classic She's Out of My Life.
