Humanist Party (Portugal)

The Partido Humanista (PH ) [ pɐɾ'tidu umɐ'niʃtɐ ] to German " Humanist Party ", is a Portuguese small party. It defines itself as a new humanistic and is part of the Humanist Movement and the Humanist International. The party was founded in 1999 and is currently headed by Luís Filipe Guerra.

In May 1984, the Humanist movement in different countries also decided to be politically active. In 1986 there was the first Spanish contact with the Portuguese party activists to explore the possibility of a Portuguese Humanist Party. However, this was first abandoned in 1990 because not enough found supporters. Since then kept winning various events with humanistic goals in the field of Portuguese universities instead.

Early 1999 was again decided to create to March of the same year the legal requirements to start the party and to register with the Portuguese Constitutional Court. The party was founded in April 1999 in time to participate in the two months later held European elections. However, the party did not participate in the election. The first congress was held at the University of Lisbon on 27 May 2000.

Since then, the party has participated in all local, regional and state elections in Portugal. Nevertheless reached the PH - although they also cooperated with other independent candidates - so far no mandates. It falls in the political space on hard, even under the Portuguese small parties it has little significance.
