Humberto de la Calle

Humberto de la Calle Lombana (* July 14, 1946 in Manzanares, Departamento de Caldas) is a Colombian politician and diplomat.

Biography

In 1998, he was first appointed by the newly elected President Andrés Pastrana ambassador in the United Kingdom. After his dismissal from that post he was appointed to succeed the retiring Pastrana Néstor Humberto Martínez interior minister in his government. In this role, he was a close supporter of the President in his efforts for peace with the leftist guerrillas. However, in February 2001, he resigned from this post and was then between 2001 and 2002 Ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS ).

In the presidential elections in Colombia 2002 he declined to run for the office of President of the Conservative Party, so that the former minister whose presidential candidate was Augusto Ramírez Ocampo for economic development.
