Humboldt County (Iowa)

The Humboldt County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. In the census in 2010, the County had 9815 inhabitants and a population density of 8.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Dakota City, named after the Dakota Indians.

Geography

The County is located in north-central Iowa and is drained by the Des Moines River. It has an area of 1,129 square kilometers, of which three square miles are water. At the Humboldt County borders the following counties:

History

The Humboldt County was formed in 1851 as the smallest county in Iowa. It was named after Alexander von Humboldt.

On 1 July 1855, the County 's borders were redefined as the country was come from the Kossuth County and Webster County. On February 26, 1857, the old borders were restored. 1872 Humboldt College was opened in 1916 and closed again, because there is no agreement with the County was to achieve through taxes.
