Humdrum

Humdrum is a British animated short film directed by Peter Peake from the year 1998.

Action

Production

The film is designed as a self-parody. Already at the beginning of the film is asked in the off if there is something interesting on TV and the answer is "No, just as a strange animation thing" with the response, " Oh God " ( Anything on telly - Only some weird animation thing. - Oh God). . The figures themselves are created in cut- out animation figures, however, the only form the basis for the shadow animation that was done in stop motion. One reason for this was that the film could be implemented as cheaper and could be dispensed with a detailed elaboration of the figures. Also the fact that the shadow figures even create shadow puppets, thereby complain, however, that there is nothing more boring than people watching the shadow play is ironic self-referentiality.

Humdrum ran at festivals worldwide, including already in August 1998 at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Awards

At the Edinburgh International Film Festival Humdrum won in the category "Best New British Animation " and was honored at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival with the Children's Jury Prize.

Humdrum was nominated in 2000 for an Oscar in the category " Best Animated Short Film ", but could not prevail against The Old Man and the Sea itself. He was also nominated for a BAFTA in the category " Best Animated Short Film ".
