Humphrey Marshall (politician)

Humphrey Marshall ( * 1760 in Orlean, Fauquier County, Virginia; † July 3, 1841 in Frankfort, Kentucky ) was an American politician of the Federalist Party, who represented the state of Kentucky in the U.S. Senate.

On January 19, 1809 Humphrey Marshall denied a duel with Senator Henry Clay, who later became leader of the Whig Party. Reason apparently was Clay's suggestion that Kentucky's parliamentarians should not wear British, but indigenous textiles; Marshall rejected this. Both men wore light wounds it.
