According to the census in 2000 lived in Humphreys County 11,206 people in 3,765 households and 2,695 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 27.17 percent White, 71.51 percent Black or African American, 0.10 percent Native American, 0.27 percent Asian, and 0.64 percent from other races; 0.31 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.50 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 3,765 households out of which 36.6 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 38.3 percent were married couples living together, 27.7 percent were single mothers and 28.4 percent were non-families. 24.9 percent of all households were single-person households, and 10.9 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.95 and the average family size is 3.54 people.
32.7 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 10.7 percent between 18 to 24, 25.8 percent between 25 and 44, 18.8 percent between 45 and 64 years old and 12.0 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 87.5 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 78.7 males.
