Hungarian parliamentary election, 1947

The parliamentary elections in Hungary in 1947 were semi-free elections in Hungary and took place under massive pressure from the Soviet occupation authorities on 31 August 1947.

The in the parliamentary elections in Hungary in 1945 victorious Independent Smallholders Party, the agricultural laborers and the bourgeoisie ( FKGP ) was broken under the pressure and collapsed to 15.4% of the vote. Despite the climate of insecurity and intimidation of the Communist MKP reached only 22.3% share of the vote, but was so strongest party in front of the Social Democrats with 14.9%.

On 12 June 1948, the forced merger between MKP and social democrats was the party of the Hungarian Working People. The parliamentary elections in May 1949 were carried out by unit lists. Thus equal circuit of the political parties in Hungary was completed.
