Hungarian prehistory

The Magna Hungaria ( German about "big Hungary ", "large" here meaning " old " ), located approximately in today's Bashkiria, probably represents the first major stop of the Magyars on their migration to Europe dar. Between 600 and 800 AD AD, the Magyars parted here: While one group in Magna Hungaria remained, the others left the area and moved westward to Europe.

Mission of Father Julian

1235 left a group of Hungarian Dominican friars Hungary in order to find those Magyars who - had remained in the home in the East - according to the chronicles. After a long journey brother Julian reached the capital of the empire of the Volga Bulgars, where it was reported to him that the Magyars settled only two days away. Julian they could find and although the Magyars Bashkiria had lived at least 300-400 years apart from those who had invaded Pannonia and had settled there, Julian was able to communicate with the eastern Magyars. Julian named the old country " Magna Hungaria " ( " large / great Hungary "). However, he also heard stories about the dreaded Tartars ( Mongols ) who were at enmity with the eastern Magyars and Bulgars. Two years after the original trip was returning after Julianus Magna Hungaria. But halfway he learned that it had been devastated in the meantime by the Mongols and had apparently survived none of the eastern Magyars. He then returned to the Kingdom of Hungary, with the news of an approaching threat and a Mongol ultimatum. Despite the warning, the invasion of the Mongols in Hungary could not be repelled in 1241 (Hungarian Tatárjárás ).

Another indication that the Magna Hungaria is more than just a tradition, are archaeological finds. It was found in the area death masks, which were already used by the Obugriern and have also been found in tombs from the time of the Conquest to the present territory of Hungary.
