Hungerbach (Gennach)

The hunger creek is a tributary of the Gennach.

The Hungerbach rises near deviates in the district Ostallgaeu. It flows through the towns Jengen, Wiedergeltingen Amberg and flows north from Buchloe in the Gennach.

Name

In the municipality of Wiedergeltingen the Hungerbach is called in contrast to the little hunger Bach, also known as Big Hungerbach. Like all " hunger rivers " (there's that name in many districts ) will not cause the stream throughout the year in the whole course water, but usually only during the snowmelt. Only in particularly wet years flows throughout the water. Hence the name comes: This very wet years were earlier years of famine, because the grain rotted on the still undrained fields.
