It led from the rotunda (572 m above sea level. A. ) in the district Saggen, which housed the Innsbruck Cyclorama by 2010, up to the hunger Castle (858 m above sea level. A. ).

The listed stamped concrete viaduct below the top station has a length of 160 meters and an average height of 12 meters. It performs over 15 arches with a clear width of 6 meters. From the valley station performs a built as a steel construction and is also Grade II listed bridge over the Inn. On 31 July 1987, a stop at the nearby Alpine Zoo was opened, however, which was slightly below the mid-span ( turnout ). When operating this stop the higher ground car had to wait on the open road.

The Hungerburgbahn opened up along with the Nordkettenbahn the Northern Chain ( Seegrube and Hafelekar ) and partly served a public service from the higher residential hunger castle in the center. The Hunger castle is a district that was founded around the turn of the century by Sebastian Kandler as a tourist center. In December 2005, almost 100 years old railway was discontinued in favor of the new Hungerburgbahn.

The largest inclination was 48.7 %, it was up to 92 people per cabin are transported at a speed of 4 m / s and 2.5 m / s With the original AC motor of 1906, the travel time was 11 minutes per hour were 300 people are being transported.
