Huoching

Huoching (c. 675, † 744 ) was a member of the ducal house of the Alemanni. According to the published in the 9th century Vita Hiudowici of Thegan Huoching was the son of the Duke Alemanni Gotfrid (around 650-709 ). Huochings son Hnabi (or Nebi ) played a role in the foundation of the monasteries of Reichenau and St. Gall.

Reception

Hans Jänichen discussed in 1976 a comparison of the father -son relationship of Hoc and Hnæf (which in the Old English epic poem Beowulf, occur in Finnsburg fragment and the seal Widsith ) with the historical Alemanni Huoching and Hnabi. You could have been the inspiration for the later Germanic heroic poetry about Hoc and Hnaef. Jänichen here followed a previous deliberation from 1849, which in his History of the Saxons hired John Mitchell Kemble in England.
