  • 3 × NFL Champion ( 1929-1931 )

Herdis ( Hurdis ) William McCrary ( born June 9, 1904 in Bicknell, Indiana, USA; † 5 November 1981) was an American football player. He has played as a running back in the National Football League ( NFL) with the Green Bay Packers.

Career

Herdis McCrary studied from 1926 to 1928 at the University of Georgia. There he was active as a track and field athlete and American football player. In all three years, he was honored by his college for his sporting achievements.

In 1929, he was hired by the Green Bay Packers, who were coached by Curly Lambeau. As is usual for that time played McCrary for the Packers at different positions. In the ranks of the team from Wisconsin were numerous All-Pro players like LaVern Dilweg, John McNally, Cal Hubbard and Mike Michalske. Even in his rookie year McCrary won with his team the NFL championship. McCrary had a decisive impact on the title. At season's climax stood on 24 November 1929, the Packers and the New York Giants against. Both teams had previously lost a game. McCrary began even in the first half, a pass from Verne Lewellen and could exploit this to a touchdown. The 7:0 guide should no longer give the Packers to the end of the game. They won the game eventually with 20:6 and remained unbeaten this season. In the following two years, the Packers were able to defend their title. After the 1933 season McCrary ended his career.
