Hurdling

The obstacle course is a discipline of athletics.

Overview

Hurdling is a positive movement, there can not be selected individually by the predetermined hurdle distances and hurdle heights of the running rhythm. However, the designation is better hurdles since it is art Sprint and the correspondingly high speed. Therefore, forced sprint. Championship competitions are the short (100 - or 110 -m ) and the long hurdles (400 m). In this case, regardless of the travel distance must be run every ten hurdles. In the hall the threshold distance is 60 m at five hurdles.

Until 1968, women wore a 80 - meter hurdles from ( see detail under 100 - meter hurdles ). In hall competitions, a 60 - meter hurdles will be held.

In the competitions of youth classes, the distances are shorter and sometimes the hurdles low ( details are regulated by the respective national athletics federation). For students (ie up to the age of 15 years ), there is the 60 -m and 80 - m hurdles. The start is like all Sprint competitions off the starting block. The hurdles may fall, but not intentionally knocked over. Runs a runner on the hurdle over, or he leaves his career, this will lead to disqualification.

In the 110 m hurdles men's first hurdle is at a distance of 13.72 m (45 ft) to the starting line, the following nine spaces amount to 9.14 m (30 ft ), and the final section 14.02 m (46 ft). Women have slightly shorter distances: The first hurdle is 13.00 m, the gaps are 8.50 m long and the final sprint is 10.50 m.

Technology

As for the running technique, so it is important that not skipped, but will overflow. The impression in the hurdle carried out relatively upright posture with sprint like foot strike ( the lowest possible Stemmwirkung → foot strike not too far in front of the center of gravity ). The strongly bent swing leg (short pendulum → faster execution ) is pulled forward - upward (knee leads the drive - as straight as possible ), while stretching the leg impression ( = Nachziehbein ). The guide arm is placed far forward. After leaving the ground the submission of the upper body is increased, the swing leg lower leg swings forward, the opposite arm is ( as close as possible next to it) blocked beside the body.

Even before reaching the edge of the barrier bar swing leg from the hip is pushed down. The opposite arm is tightly pulled back dynamic - down at the Nachziehbein over. At the same time a fast control (knee control ) of the outward splayed Nachziehbeines carried forward ( end position Nachziehbein: Knee centered very high in the body - lower leg vertically - easy -striding ). Sets the swinging leg, as close as possible behind the hurdle, stretched on the bales ( center of gravity and foot strike as possible a vertical line or center of gravity shifted slightly in the direction ). Important for a good transition into the intermediate hurdles is the lowest possible payback in the foot, knee, and hip joint and an active cross- fitting the Nachziehbeines.

As uniform as possible rhythm must be maintained between the hurdles. The intermediate hurdles takes place with a high, frequency and vorwärtsorientiertem knee insert, the body position should be maintained and the arms are guided close to the body. After the hurdle crossing a possible punchier first step is necessary for the best possible transition to ZHS ( = intermediate hurdles ). To help us make the hurdle crossing a shortened last (third ) step is necessary. In the 110 - and 100 -meter hurdles the intermediate hurdles each consisting of three steps ( four ground contacts) between the hurdles in the 400 meters of the men is a size 13 to 15s rhythm ( start to the first hurdle in size 13: 20 steps; at 15s: 22 steps ) run in the women's 15er - 17er to rhythm ( 17 steps between hurdles ). An odd rhythm between hurdles ensures that you can always go over the hurdle with the same swing leg and does not have to change legs. There are a few runners who can run with both legs technically as good as swinging leg over the hurdle. In a clean hurdle technology, the position of the center of mass hardly changes. This is achieved by folding down the upper body over the hurdle at the same time marking the swing leg.

200 - meter hurdles

1900 and 1904 there was also at the Olympics a 200 - meter hurdles.

Competitions on the track were then rarely played, in the English speaking as 220 - yards hurdles ( 201.17 m). The International Athletics Association IAAF recognized until 1960 in world records for this route. The last registered world records:

  • For straight lines: 21.9 s, Don Styron, USA, April 2, 1960, Baton Rouge
  • For lines curve: 22.5 s, Glenn Davis, USA, August 20, 1960 Bern

In the Masters Athletics, the route will be introduced from May 2010 for the age groups from M / W 80 again.
