Huygens Institute for the History of the Netherlands

The Instituut voor Nederlandse Geschiedenis, abbreviation: ING (Institute for Dutch History ) is a research facility of the Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (NWO ). The institute is located in The Hague in the building of the Royal Library of the Netherlands.

The institute was founded in 1902 as Commissie voor de ' s Rijks Geschiedkundige Publicatien (Commission for historical publications of the Empire). It supports historical research of the Dutch history through the publication of source data, research reports, databases and reference works. Since 1902 some 450 works have been published. These include:

  • The biographical lexicon of the Netherlands ( Biographical Woordenboek van Nederland )
  • The digital woman lexicon of the Netherlands ( van Nederland Digitaal Vrouwenlexicon )
  • Digital Bibliography of Dutch History ( Digital Bibliography van de Nederlandse Geschiedenis )
  • The correspondence Johan Rudolf Thor Becke.

Expenditure in book form are available in the Dutch book trade. Nowadays, however, ING published mainly online on the website of the Institute; which the information they free.
