HY (Band)

HY is a Japanese J- pop band. It belongs in their home country to the most successful artists of the 2000s. They are referred to as Indie band. The reason for this is not the stylistic orientation but the fact that they are not in Japan with a major label, but with an independent label under contract.

History

HY was founded in 2000 by five friends from school in Okinawa. The band's name, they formed from the initial letters of their hometown Higashi- Yakena ( Uruma, Okinawa Prefecture). As street musicians, they gained a fan base quickly and was able to publish in 2001 their debut album " Departure". The circulation of 50,000 copies was quickly sold out, so that 2002 re-release took place. That same year, the band embarked on their first tour of Japan, performed in Paris and played as the opening act for Linkin Park in Budokan. Their second album " Street Story" was a top seller and rose to No. 1 on the Japanese album charts. Also, the 2004 and 2005 albums were released successor to square 1 The 2006 tour was completely sold out, a show was broadcast on Japanese television. There followed in 2007 appearances in the U.S. and Canada. The fifth album " Hearty " was released in 2008 and reached # 2 on the charts. In autumn 2008, a tour followed by five stages.
