Hydarnes

Hydarnes (Greek: Ὑδάρνης, Old Persian: Vidarna, elamtitisch: Miturna / Mitarna ), son of Hydarnes, was a Persian general of the Achaemenid Empire in the 5th century BC. His father was one of the seven conspirators against Gaumata.

After the defeat of Salamis located Xerxes I had decided to return to Asia, leaving behind a large army under Mardonius. This also the immortals were handed over, but Hydarnes wanted to stay on the side of the king, and went with him back to Asia. Supposedly only the task to return the army he had been applied to the Hellespont, as Xerxes had to leave as soon as possible to Europe taken by a vessel the direct path over the sea. From Hydarnes then nothing more is reported.
