Hyde County (North Carolina)

Hyde County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Swanquarter.

Geography

The County is located in Eastern North Carolina, separated by the upstream peninsulas from the Atlantic Ocean and has an area of ​​3688 square kilometers, of which 2101 square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Tyrrell County, Carteret County, Pamlico County, Beaufort County and Washington County.

Hyde County is divided into five townships: Currituck, Fairfield, Lake Landing, Ocracoke and Swan Quarter.

History

Hyde County was formed in 1705 from the former Wickham County. It was named after Governor Edward Hyde.
