Hyder Ali

Haidar Ali or Hyder Ali (* 1721 in Sira, Mysore in southern India, † December 7, 1782 in Narasingarayanpet ) was a South Indian commander and major opponent of the British East India Company.

Haidar Ali was born into an Arab family who came in 1600 to India. The parents he lost at an early stage, an education he was not given. He entered 1728 in the service of the King of Mysore. As a soldier, he struck his award in Karnatakakrieg an officer's career. 1755 Festungskommandatur of Dindigal was conferred on him. He was nominated for his accomplishments in the fight against the Marathas from Raja Fateh Haidar to Bahadur. Since 1761, he was the de facto rulers, let the old ruling house but continue to exist. In March 1765, he concluded the Treaty of Ananthapur. He expanded into the Deccan, led against the Marathas against the British as several wars ( four Mysore Wars ), where he was allied with the French. In 1782 he died unexpectedly in Chittoor; his son, Tipu Sultan, succeeded him on the throne.
