Hydrocharis is a plant genus in the family of the frog bite plants ( Hydrocharitaceae ).

Features

Hydrocharis species are perennial, herbaceous plant. They are floating plants or roots in shallow water. The stems are short and form spurs. The leaves are arranged in a basal rosette, petiolate, floating or submerged, rarely also excellent from the water surface. The leaf blade is ovate, rounded or kidney-shaped, entire, obtuse to slightly pointed end. The 1 or 2 leaf spines are transparent and trockenhäutig. There are more than 5 of the leaf veins curved.

The plants are monoecious and the flowers radial symmetry and unisexual. Which are mono-or Spathas zweiklappig. The male Spathas are one to sechsblütig and stalked. Male flowers are short-stalked. The three sepals are oblong -elliptic, obtuse, white or greenish white and binding. The three petals are broadly ovate, white or yellowish, with a rounded tip, membranous and much longer and wider than the sepals.
