Hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene
The name of hydroxyl -terminated polybutadiene, HTPB short, is a collective term for butadiene rubber ( polybutadiene), take the free ends of the molecule hydroxyl groups. There are polyols with a long hydrocarbon chain (English hydrocarbon polyol ).
The molecular weight is typically about 3000, the hydroxyl functionality is the average number of OH groups per molecule, with 2 to 2.5.
HTPB is often used as a gummy carrier in solid rocket motors. Together with aluminum, it forms the reducing agent. Both units comprise approximately 15%. The oxidant, usually ammonium perchlorate, transmits 70% to the fuel mass.
