Hyémondans

Hyémondans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Hyémondans is located on 428 m, about 18 km southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in a wide valley basin in the northern French Jura at the northern foot of the Lomont south of Doubstals.

The area of ​​6.87 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area occupied by the basin of Hyémondans, which has a width of about 1.5 km and a length of 3 km. It is drained by the Ruisseau de Sourans north to the Ruisseau du Bié and thus to the Doubs. The basin is up to 150 m cut into the surrounding heights, which form a panel jurassic -like plateau at the northern foot of the Lomont. It has very steep, mostly forested slopes, crowned at the top at different locations of a resistant Kalkfelsband. In the east the border is usually above the steep escarpment at the edge of the high plateau of Goux -les- Dambelin ( to 560 m). To the southeast passes over a saddle (480 m) to the catchment area of ​​the Ranceuse. The western boundary is also on the edge of the adjacent heights of Lanthenans and Tournedoz. The southern end of the valley is marked by the steep slopes of the Montagne du Lomont. It forms in geological- tectonic respects an anticlinal folds of the Jura and is oriented in the direction west-east according to the strike of the mountains in this region. With 821 m is reached on the crest of Lomont the highest elevation of Hyémondans.

To Hyémondans the hamlet of La Cude ( 461 m) is in the southern part of the valley basin at the foot of Lomont. Neighboring communities of Hyémondans are Sourans in the north, Goux -les- Dambelin and Dambelin in the east, Vyt -lès- Belvoir in the south and Anteuil and Lanthenans in the West.

Attractions

The Chapel of Hyémondans was built in 1881. Instead of the chapel the Mairie ( Municipal House ) has a bell tower.

Population

With 200 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Hyémondans is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the range between 150 and 170 people, a population decrease was recorded in the subsequent period, which again was followed by a slight growth since the early 1980s.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs to La Cude. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 11 km. Another road connection with Lanthenans.
