In the Old English epic poem Beowulf King Hygelac is the tribe of the Geats (see Gauti, Getae, Goths and Götaland ) attributed. Beowulf is the son of Ecgtheow and Hygelacs sister, ie Hygelac is Beowulf's uncle.
