The Hygenhund is recognized by the FCI Norwegian dog breed ( FCI group 6, section 1.2, Standard No. 266).

Origin and History

The Hygenhund emerged in the second half of the 19th century when the Norwegian breeders crossed Hygen imported Holsteiner Bracken with other northern brackish shock.

Short Description

The Hygenhund is up to 58 cm tall, with rough hair that thick and shiny, but should not be too short. The colors of the dogs are: Red-brown or yellow- red, often with black shading on the head, back and at the base of the tail, with or without white markings; Black / tan, usually combined with white markings; White with reddish-brown or yellow- red badges and mottled with black or tan markings. The ears are medium high, thin and soft, neither wide nor long, and taper towards the rounded tip.
