Hylotelephium telephium

Big fat hen ( Hylotelephium telephium subsp. Maximum)

The Big Fat Hen ( Hylotelephium telephium (L.) H. Ohba, Syn: Sedum telephium L. ) is a species of the genus Hylotelephium in the family Crassulaceae ( Crassulaceae ). In the Great Stonecrop it involves a collective species, ie the merging of several previously described individually, closely related small species. The species occurs in almost all of Europe and grows mainly on dry sites such as walls, rocks, dry forests or field margins.

Description

The species has the chromosome numbers 2n = 24, 36 or 48

System

We distinguish the following sub- types:

  • The Big Fat Hen ( Hylotelephium telephium subsp maximum ( L.) H.Ohba, Syn. Sedum telephium subsp maximum ( L.) Krocker, Sedum maximum ( L.) Hoffm. . ): With mostly yellow-green flowers, egg-shaped upper stem leaves with weak stems comprehensive reason.
  • The Red Stonecrop or purple stonecrop ( Hylotelephium telephium subsp telephium, Syn. Sedum purpureum subsp telephium (L.) Hartm, Sedum telephium L. s.str, Sedum purpurascens WDJ Koch.. . ) Recurved with pink, across the middle petals oblong- lanceolate and against permanent upper stem leaves with wedge-shaped base. On stony soils and rocks, mainly in Central and Eastern Europe.
  • The Mountain stonecrop ( Hylotelephium telephium subsp fabaria ( WDJKoch ) H.Ohba, Syn. Sedum telephium subsp fabaria ( WDJ Koch) Kirschl, Sedum fabaria WDJ Koch.. ) With purple, just protruding Blütenkronblättern and alternate, oblong- lanceolate upper stem leaves that are narrowed stalk -like at the base. In damp and shady rocks in Central and Western Europe.
  • The High Stonecrop ( Hylotelephium telephium subsp ruprechtii ( Jalas ) H.Ohba, Syn: Sedum telephium sensu Boriss; Hylotelephium maximum subsp ruprechtii ( Jalas ) Dostal. .. ) With bright yellow flowers and stems comprehensive leaves. Comes in Europe from the east and northeast.
