Hyndluljóð

The Hyndlalied ( Hyndlulióð ) is the sixteenth and last of the gods songs of the Elder Edda and is in a single tradition in the Flateyjarbók ( following as GKS 1005., Or Codex Flatöiensis known ) obtained an Icelandic manuscript, which was built 1387-1394.

The poem itself consists of 50 stanzas of eight lines that are complete except for a few. In Hyndlalied itself is in the verses 28 to 41, the so-called smaller Völuspá, a prophecy for doomsday Ragnarök inserted.

In the text, the goddess Freya searches on the giantess Hyndla. She rides it on her boar Hildisvini, however, turns out to be the man turned Ottarr, her lover. This is in an inheritance dispute with a Angantyr not described in detail and therefore requires knowledge of its origin. Although the giantess by looking that the boar Ottarr is, it begins with the enumeration of his ancestors. As the goddess also tried following this story to persuade Hyndla, Ottarr to administer a potion that will make it easier for him to keep the heard to Hyndla refuses. Then Freya threatens her, to prove with a spell that would kindle in her insatiable desire for physical love. So Hyndla are after, but speaks in turn a damn about the potion for Ottarr from the defeated Freya.
