Hyoglossus

The hyoglossus muscle ( " hyoid - tongue muscle " ) is one of the extrinsic muscles of the tongue, because he ( Cornu majus ossis hyoidei Corpus ossis hyoidei, ) to move the tongue in different directions through the origin at the hyoid bone. It emits a fan-shaped one in the tongue, and is applied to the aponeurosis linguae. In unilateral contraction it lowers the base of the tongue.

It is important for chewing, swallowing, speaking and sucking in interaction with the other muscles. Due to the muscles of the tongue, the tongue sounds ( lingual ) are formed.
