Hypertonia

Hypertension (including hypertension, hypertension. Ὑπέρ AltGr - [h ] yper " over - " and τόνος tonos " tension ") means, the increase of pressure or a voltage above the norm in medicine. This may be the case with an increased state of stress of the muscles in the context of disorders of the extrapyramidal motor system, increased intracranial pressure or elevated pressure in blood vessels.

In the latter case it may be:

  • Arterial Hypertension: high pressure in the arteries (arteries) of the systemic circulation; in everyday parlance with hypertension or high blood pressure is generally arterial hypertension meant
  • Pulmonary arterial hypertension (pulmonary hypertension, PAH): high blood pressure in the pulmonary circulation in the arteries from the heart to the lungs and
  • Portal hypertension: Increased pressure in the portal vein.

The opposite concept is hypotension, and this is usually based on the blood pressure.
