Hypnum lacunosum

The Hypnaceae are the eponymous family of moss - order Hypnales.

Features

There are delicate to strong mosses. The stems grow creeping or erect and possess numerous rhizoids. The stems are almost always branched regular or irregular. The cells of their leaves are mostly extremely elongated (10 to 20 times as long as wide). A midrib is missing the leaves always. More than the base of the leaf there is a short double rib. The leaf Flights cells, that is, the cells of the edges of the sheet substrate are often differentiated and round or square and with thickened cell walls. In many species, the leaflets are curved like a sickle to one side.

The capsule is inclined to horizontal, rarely it is upright. The capsule cap is conical and blunt beaked up short. The Kalyptra the form of a cap.

System

The Hypnaceae comprise 52 genera with about 595 species. A paraphrase of the family is difficult. According molekurlagenetischer results it is still polyphyletic in the present extent, although some species have already been transferred to other families.
