Hypostome

The hypostome ( from Ancient Greek ὑπό Hypo, under [ half ] ' and στόμα stoma, mouth ' ) is the field at the mouth cnidarians and arthropods.

Hypostome with the ticks

When the tick bite hypostome comes after the section with the Beißklauen used. It is in the tick to a tongue-like, hollow and occupied by fine barbs part of the oral apparatus which is inserted into the cut.

Trilobites hypostome

The hypostome is a plate on the bottom of the cephalon trilobites. It was probably part of the oral apparatus. The shape and positioning of this hypostome are essential features in the systematic classification of Trilobitenarten.

Konterminante positioning

In the so-called positioning the konterminanten hypostome is attached to the rostral. The front of the glabella on the top is flush with the front side of the hypo toms.

Natante positioning

In the so-called natanten positioning the hypostome is within the bottom of the cephalon and therefore has no connection to the rostral plate. With this positioning, the glabellar front is flush with the hypostome - front.

Independent positioning

The hypostome is attached to the Dublüren but is independent of glabella positioned. The glabella is usually longer and thus overlaps the hypostome.
