Hysen Pasha Mosque

The Hysen Pasha Mosque (Albanian Xhamia e Hysen Pashës ) is a major mosque in the central Albanian town of Berat.

Evliya Çelebi Mosque After the 1670/71 of Hysen Pasha in the Murat Çelebi District, part of the suburb to the west of the castle was built. Today the mosque is surrounded by apartment buildings.

In the 1870s, the mosque was thoroughly renovated. After next to the mosque a clock tower was erected in the 1870s ( which was destroyed in 1967 ), the mosque often Clock Tower Mosque ( Alb. Xhamia e Sahatit ) was called. The name is still in use.

The minaret, which was described by Çelebi as beautiful and elegant has been ablated 1967. In 1994 it was rebuilt. Other sources attribute, however, that from the old building only the minaret will be preserved. Recent photos show a new building, or at least a modern renovated building.

The mosque is a national cultural monument of Albania.
