Hyun Jin-geon

Hyun Jin- geon ( born August 9, 1900 in Daegu, Gyeongsangbuk-do, † April 25, 1943 ) was a South Korean writer.

Life

Hyun Jin- geon, was born on August 9, 1900 in Daegu. At 12, he went to Japan on the Seijo middle school, and later he attended the University of Shanghai and studied German literature there. After his return he published together with the Korean authors Sanghwa Lee and Baek Giman a literary magazine called Club Geohwa ( 거화 (炬火) ). Hyun Ji- geon worked as a journalist at the newspaper Chosǒn Ilbo, and later at sidae Ilbo, Maeil Ilbo and Dong -A Ilbo. He was also a co-founder of the literary magazine Paekcho in the 1920igern.

Hyun Ji- geon, also known by the stage name Bingheo ( 빙허 (凭 虚) ), is an important author for the early modern Korean literature, especially in the short story. With the look below the surface point to the former reality. His first story Huisanghwa ( 희생 화 ) was published in 1920, but her little attention. Only Hyun Ji- geons subsequent works helped him to gain a reputation as an important author of realism. The stories Impoverished wife ( 빈처 ) and society that makes one reach for the glass ( 술 권하는 사회 ) based on his own experiences, marked by a period of colonial oppression, deprived of Korean intellectuals both to their material basis as well as to their social identity were. The protagonist of impoverished wife ( 빈처 ) must watch as his aristocratic woman loses her status and becomes an impoverished woman. In these dark times, the alcohol consumption, paradoxically, as an escape from the company that makes one reach for the glass ( 술 권하는 사회 ).

Starting with an auspicious day ( 운수 좋은 날 ) turned the writer from the use of the narrator and took over from the personal narrative situation to represent the life of objective and descriptive. Among the stories that were written in this style include fire ( 불 ), National Director B and the love letter (B 사감 과 러브 레타 ) and home ( 고향 ). After his short fictional stories he began in 1931 to write historical novels, including equator ( 적도 ) Muyǒngt'ap ( 무영탑 ) and Hǔkch'isangji ( 흑치상지 ). Reason for this change was Hyun Ji- geons intention to get Korean national identity in times of increasing Japanese militarization. This task occupied him .. until his death in 1943
